Aurora Argentinian Bakery

Aurora Bakery caters to both meat-eaters and plant-eaters, serving the best calzones in the city. With melt-in-your-mouth cheesy goodness whether you’re vegan or not, and soft, sweet medialunas to save for a treat. If you haven’t been to Aurora, now is the time!

If you need a quick lunch to take back to the office, this bakery sells barista-made coffee along with hot food-to-go including vegan sandwiches, pastries and even cinnamon scrolls. Something for any time of the day!

Belén Bakery

Wellington’s first and most popular 100% vegan bakery, for all of your sweet and savoury cravings. Everybody on Lambton Quay has heard the name ‘Belén‘, and has probably been inside to gaze at their beautiful cabinet full of fresh, colourful food.

Belén Bakery has an ever-changing menu, with every new item as good (or better) as the last. Get in early to have your pick of juicy sandwiches, stuffed croissants, filled cronuts, and even a mac and cheese pie! The options are endless and ALWAYS delicious.

Black Lion Café

The Black Lion Bakery and Café on Cuba St offer options for both omnis and veggies, as well as gluten-free! They have a yummy selection of vegan paninis, toasties, fruit danishes and pastries. Make sure you don’t miss out on their DIVINE Biscoff cronut…you’ll have one and you’ll dream about it for weeks after.

Black Lion also sells delicious freshly baked bread daily—artisan loaves such as sourdough, ciabatta, rye and French sticks. The staff here are always lovely and ready to help.

Buenos Aires Café

Vegan empanadas!! That’s all you need to know before giving Buenos Aires Café a visit.

Buenos Aires makes fresh, steaming empanadas for the vegans – filled with caramelized onions, mushrooms and gooey cheese. They also have other vegan options available such as ‘ham and cheese’ medialunas and other Argentinian goodies! Make sure to go early as this place tends to fill up quickly.

Deluxe Café

Hidden away at the top of Courtenay Place, Deluxe Café is a small, quirky café to visit for a cup of coffee and a muffin on a cold day! The perfect spot if you need to get some study or work done.

Deluxe has a cabinet filled with goodies such as vegan cheese scones and blueberry muffins. There are not many vegan options on the menu but it’s still worth a visit for a cheese scone. The staff are a further reason to pop in, making you feel welcome as soon as you walk through the door.

Queen Sally’s Diamond Deli

Diamond Deli has created a delicious vegan miso mushroom toastie that we had to rave about them on the blog! Fried miso mushrooms, cheese, spinach and potato toasted in a soft ciabatta roll is what keeps us coming back. Serving plenty of vegan options such as flavourful toasties, freshly baked biscuits, and yummy raw salads.

If you feel the need to get out of the CBD and head towards the ocean, the Deli is your best bet. It’s one of our favourites and is certain to satisfy those tastebuds!

Fidels

One of Cuba Streets’ most popular cafés for brunch and coffee. You’ll probably need a booking as it’s normally full! Vegan, vegetarian, Gluten-free and meat options, Fidels caters for everyone. They serve both cabinet and menu food, as well as good coffee and, even better, brunch cocktails…hehe.

Their breakfast burrito is one of the best vegan burritos we’ve tried in the CBD. If you like scrambled tofu, beans, and cheesy deliciousness, topped with salsa and deep-fried pickle, you’re guaranteed a good time!

Freds Sandwiches

Sandwiches are a man’s best friend. If you need a quick ‘sando’ while you’re on the go, Fred’s has got you covered!

These guys offer a range of different sandwiches and rolls, with different breads such as fresh sourdough, ciabatta and focaccia. However, if you’re vegan, you’ll have to be specific as they only have vegan options on request.

They also sell fresh orange juice which pairs well with any of the sandwiches!

Midnight Espresso

Midnight Espresso, a Wellington Hipster Classic. Whether you’re grabbing breakfast before work, catching up with a friend in the afternoon, or getting a drink after dinner, Midnight Espresso is open until midnight, every night!

With an extensive menu as well as a cabinet, a chunky slice of their vegan cake is the best way to end your night over a cup of Havana coffee. They also sell burgers, nachos, bagels, pizza slices, banana bread and much more!

If you’re visiting Wellington, Midnight needs to be one of your stops. With murals and artwork covering the walls, colourful chairs and pinball machines, it’s a café that remains iconic.

Pranah Café

Newtown’s local vegetarian café, Pranah, is popular with vegans as they’ve got plenty of dairy-free and egg-free items to keep us satisfied!

Pranah Café has both savoury and sweet options, their custard squares being genuinely glorious. They also support local organic businesses and farmers by sourcing their vegetables from local farmers, which we think is pretty cool.

Sweet Release

An entirely dairy-free, egg-free, meat-free café, serving plenty of gluten-free options. Catering not only for vegans but also the celiacs of Wellington!

Sweet Release serves vegan comfort food you really can’t get anywhere else. Mac and cheese, cheesy chicken toasties, and big breakfasts with ‘eggs’ are only some of the options off the menu. And in the cabinet, they have sweet treats! Such as brownies, cupcakes and several different flavours of cake.

So, head over to your new comfort café. They’ve even got a 2-for-1 cabinet food deal after 3 pm!

Wellington Chocolate Factory

Wellington Chocolate Factory sells both dairy milk chocolate and dairy-free chocolates. Part cafe, part shop and part chocolate factory!

Rich in sugary delights, the WCF serves decadent hot chocolates, and warm, chewy chocolate chip cookies, all while letting you watch the magic happen through the glass. If you’re craving chocolate, this really is your best option.

They even do tours of the factory and workshops so you can have a go at making chocolate yourself!
